Residents have a lot to be proud of in Hazel Crest, located 25 miles south of the Loop. The village has excellent housing, good shopping, and it is commuter- friendly.
Plans for the construction of Ardon Court, a 56-bed facility for Alzheimer's patients, are on the drawing board.
The park district provides programs and supports the Hazel Crest Positive Youth Development Committee, which coordinates local resources and designs activities for community youths. District facilities include a pool and water slide, a ball field complex containing five baseball/softball fields, a football field and a state-of- the-art fitness center.
Housing
Hazel Crest offers housing in several price brackets. Neighborhoods, old and new, have ranches, Cape Cods, split-levels and mid-levels. Village West includes the upscale Dynasty Lakes and offers single-family homes.
Schools
Elementary students attend Districts 144, 152.5, 153 and 161.
Teenagers attend Hillcrest High School, District 228, Homewood-Flossmoor High School, District 233, or Thornwood High School, District 205.
Transportation
The Tri-State Tollway (I-294), I-80, I-57 and the Bishop Ford (I-394) are nearby. The Loop is a 30- minute drive. Midway Airport is 40 minutes away, while O'Hare is a 50-minute trip. The Metra express takes a 40- minute trip into the Loop, locals 50 minutes.
